August 3, 2010 — Destination: Secrets Maroma Beach, Mexico
We flew into Cancun International. We had booked an SUV to take us to the resort - Secrets Maroma Beach. It was about a 20 minute ride, not bad.
After waiting for what seemed like forever (about 2 hours!) for our room to be ready… we were greeted by this…
If only we liked champagne. But, it was free, so you know we sucked some down.
The rooms were beautiful and we spulged for the swim-up right outside our door. Some will argue it’s not worth it.. but we did actually use it a few times.
Here’s a look at the beach; where we spent most of our mornings.
We ventured outside the walls of the resort just once, to Chichen Itza. It was about a 3 hour bus/minivan ride. We booked the tour through YukaTreks and Mitch was our guide. This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We visited the Chichen Itza Ruins first, then went to a Cenote (under ground cave with a pool of cool fresh water) and then visited the city of Valladolid. The food in Valladolid was probably some of the best of the whole week. Tip: be sure to have $ with you in Valladolid as you need to pay for toliet paper. (Thanks Mitch!)
Trip Highlights:
Mango Tango’s and Miami Vice’s starting at whatever time you want, beautiful weather, late night hammocks, reading in the sun, cocktail hour at the lobby (where the waitress has your drink ready when you arrive!), delicious food… the list goes on…
